Many students looking to enroll in a master’s degree look for universities located in the same state where they reside. This is true for students enrolling in online masters programs as well. The reasons for this are plenty. The two main reasons are –

• ‘In State’ Vs. ‘Out of State’ Tuition – Typically, the tuition fee for ‘in-state’ students is significantly less than the ‘out of state’ students. Many universities that offer online master’s programs have the same tuition fees for in-state and out-of-state students. However, there is a wide perception that the same rules apply for online programs. This is true to some extent. But many universities are moving away from this model. • Hybrid Programs – Many universities offer online master’s programs, but some require that students take in-person classes. This is especially true for some programs that might require in-person practical training, laboratory sessions, exams, etc.

Other reasons include – students who finished their bachelors from the same university, support for local universities, supporting their local college sports teams, etc. There are many more reasons students prefer getting an online masters from a university-based in their state.
